Adelaide Global Game Jam
26th January - 1st February 2026
The Global Game Jam is back in Adelaide for 2026!
To participate, you must register on the GGJ site here and then join our Discord sever.
This jam site will be online only. This means team building and sharing jam progress is done on our server.
But hey, it beats not hosting the Global Game Jam in all of Adelaide at all!
After the GGJ jam week is all over we plan to host a small in-person event to playtest all jam games, let people vote for their favorite games and give out awards.
All important future updates will be posted on our Discord.
FAQ
Q. What is a game jam?
A: A game jam is when a bunch of creative people with different skills (music, programming, art, voice acting etc.) team up to make a video game in a short amount of time.
You are required to make your game based on the jam's unique yearly theme.
Q.Why should I join the Global Game Jam?
A: You can learn some new skills, make new friends and even make a cool game by the end of the jam!
The Global Game Jam means all over the world, there are other jammers working from the same theme as you, and it's just fun!
Game jams can also help you make something spontaneously which can break down bad habits such as lack of confidence and procrastination.
Q. I've never made a game before, should I join?
A: Absolutely join! Just try to think about your strongest skill.
Whether it's a passion for writing elaborate murder-mystery stories or drawing designs of dragons, tell the other jammers.
Post in the #looking-for-a-team channel on the Discord and don't be shy!
Q: Can I jam all by myself?
A: If you feel inspired to work by yourself, you are absolutely allowed to make a game by yourself.
Collaborating however, is often encouraged if you find people you get along with.
Q: Can I create a fangame?
A: Fangames are not allowed for this jam. It must be your own original IP.
Q: Do I have to make all my own art/music/assets?
A: You are allowed to use free game assets (e.g. open game art or royalty free music) if you have permission to use it. You cannot steal any game assets online without having distinct permission from that creator!
Q: How long do I have to work on my game?
A: The GGJ now goes for an entire week, since some people like to have more time. Some jammers however, prefer to work on their game more intensively just from Friday evening till Sunday evening. It's up to you and your team.
Q: What are diversifiers?
A: They are a word or phrase that you are encouraged to interpret and incorporate into your game in order to spice things up a bit. You don’t have to build your game around diversifiers, but it can make it more fun.
Q: Will there be an award for the best game?
A: The GGJ site highlights excellent games on their site.
For the Adelaide GGJ however, we will host a playtesting and voting event in the weeks after the jam and there may be an award for the winner. See our Discord for announcements.
